T. Rex was a British rock band founded in 1967 by singer-songwriter and guitarist Marc Bolan, initially as a folk duo called Tyrannosaurus Rex before shifting to electric rock and shortening the name in 1970. Known for pioneering glam rock, T. Rex blended electric guitar riffs with catchy, often fantastical lyrics and a unique aesthetic that combined glitter and rock ‘n’ roll swagger. Their hits like “Get It On (Bang a Gong)” and “20th Century Boy” became iconic, defining the glam rock movement of the early 1970s. Bolan’s charisma and style influenced many artists, but the band’s rise was tragically cut short in 1977 when Bolan died in a car crash, cementing T. Rex as both a transformative and legendary act in rock history.
